The Mexico national football team will complete its World Cup build-up with friendly matches against Ghana, Australia, and Serbia, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Mexico will take on Ghana on May 22 on home soil and then face Australia eight days later at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The team will return to Mexico to meet Serbia on June 4, with the venue yet to be announced.

Mexico will kick off its World Cup campaign on June 11 against South Africa in the tournament’s opening match at Azteca Stadium.

“These are the perfect opponents to help get the national team ready for the World Cup,” said Ivar Sisniega, president of the Mexican Football Federation.

Prior to those fixtures, Mexico will host Iceland on Feb. 25 in Querétaro and Portugal in Mexico City on March 28, before travelling to Chicago to play Belgium on March 31.

The game against Portugal will signal the reopening of Azteca Stadium, which has been shut since May 2024.

“We’ve been informed that the stadium will be ready, the pitch will be in top condition, and the seating and match facilities will be prepared,” Sisniega said. “There is no alternative plan; we will play on March 28 as scheduled, and no other option is being considered.”
