Manchester United may be missing two players when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at Old Trafford. Michael Carrick has enjoyed a perfect start to life as United head coach, winning his opening three matches, and will be aiming to make it four consecutive victories when Spurs arrive on Saturday lunchtime.

United will intensify their training schedule over the next couple of days in preparation for the fixture, but have already begun work without two important members of the squad. Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount were both absent from last weekend’s win over Fulham and were again missing from the most recent training session held in midweek.

Carrick allowed club media access to Wednesday morning’s training, with five academy players taking part from the outset. However, there was still no sign of either De Ligt or Mount, and it now seems doubtful that the pair will be available for selection this weekend.
