Lamine Yamal has announced that he will gift his first-ever match ball to his mother after the Barcelona star recorded a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Villarreal.
The young winger led the charge with a brilliant display before Robert Lewandowski added a late goal to complete a comfortable victory for the Blaugrana, who extended their lead over Real Madrid to four points.
Yamal Runs Riot
Barcelona dominated Villarreal at Camp Nou, with Yamal at the center of everything. The 17-year-old was electric, tormenting the visitors’ defense with a hat-trick of left-footed strikes, showcasing his signature precise finishing.
The hosts began cautiously, but when Fermin Lopez dispossessed Pape Gueye in midfield and slipped the ball to Yamal, the result was inevitable. The winger opened his body and slotted the ball beneath the goalkeeper to give Hansi Flick’s side the lead in under 30 minutes.
Yamal’s second goal was the highlight of the match. Chasing a loose Lopez pass on the right, he cut inside using slick footwork and step-overs to bypass Sergi Cardona. Alberto Moleiro attempted to intervene, but Yamal cleverly lifted the ball over Moleiro and struck a blistering shot into the top-left corner.
In the second half, Villarreal pulled one back from a corner, but Yamal soon restored Barcelona’s comfort. Played through by Pedri, he calmly curled the ball into the bottom corner past the goalkeeper. He was later substituted for Roony Bardghji, receiving a standing ovation from the Camp Nou crowd.
Winger Gifts Match Ball to Mother

After completing the first hat-trick of his career, Yamal collected the match ball and made his way to the friends and family section, embracing those closest to him. “My mum will get the hat-trick ball, definitely!” he said.
Yamal Happy Again
Reflecting on his return to form, Yamal told Movistar+, via BeIN Sports: “It was a mix of everything. I wasn’t feeling well, plus the pubalgia. I wasn’t happy playing, and it showed. For about a week now, I feel much better. I feel like smiling while playing again, something I hadn’t felt in a long time. Now I’m happy playing.
“People expect me to score 100 goals per season since I was 16, but that’s difficult.”
The Path to Champions League Glory

Barcelona have been drawn favorably in the Champions League, avoiding heavyweights like Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea. The Catalan side face Newcastle United, whom they already defeated earlier in the season.
If they overcome the trip to St James’ Park, Barcelona could face Atletico Madrid or Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals, with a potential semi-final showdown against Premier League leaders Arsenal awaiting, should the Gunners defeat Bayer Leverkusen and then Bodo/Glimt or Sporting CP.
Yamal will be eager to help Barcelona return to the pinnacle of European football, knowing that performances like his hat-trick against Villarreal are key. His playing time and expectations will need careful management as the season progresses.
