Bayern Munich is reportedly contemplating the sale of left-back Alphonso Davies this summer due to his ongoing injury issues. The Canadian international, who signed a new contract last year extending until 2030, has frequently been linked with moves away from the Bundesliga club. However, the 25-year-old has struggled with fitness in recent years, prompting Bayern to evaluate whether it would be prudent to cash in on him, especially with Manchester United showing interest.
Injury Challenges and Recovery Progress
Davies has been a key player for Bayern Munich since joining the first team in 2019, known for his exceptional pace and attacking capabilities as a left-back. His contributions were vital during the 2019-20 season when he helped the team secure a historic continental treble, winning the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB-Pokal. Despite his loyalty to Bayern, the past few seasons have been challenging for him as he has faced several injuries.
After returning from a significant cruciate ligament injury earlier this season, Davies found himself sidelined once again following the second leg of Bayern's last-16 Champions League match against Atalanta, where they triumphed with a resounding 10-2 aggregate score. Currently, he is dealing with a hamstring problem but is reportedly making good progress in his recovery. He will use the international break to focus on regaining his fitness, having not been selected for Canada’s March friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia.

Currently, Luke Shaw, 30, serves as the first-choice left-back for United but has his own injury concerns. Despite being fit for all 31 Premier League matches so far this season, United’s management is seeking additional options. Furthermore, Tyrell Malacia is expected to leave the club this summer, and Patrick Dorgu is viewed primarily as an attacking player who fits a different tactical setup.

Canada’s national team manager, Jesse Marsch, provided an update on Davies' condition earlier this month. He stated, “I’ve spoken to him. He’s obviously a little sad and frustrated. But he said that this injury – even compared to the one he had about a month ago – is much less severe. It will probably take him two to three weeks to get back.”
Despite facing these setbacks, Davies is anticipated to regain full fitness in time to lead Canada at the 2026 World Cup. Canada aims for a remarkable performance in the tournament, competing against a playoff winner, Qatar, and Switzerland in Group B.
