Bohemians maintained their early lead in the Premier Division after surviving a dramatic stoppage-time scare to secure a hard-fought victory over Shamrock Rovers at a lively but tense Dalymount Park.

The match seemed to be under control for Bohs, with Connor Parsons’ first-half goal, Colm Whelan’s second-half penalty, and a composed finish from Ross Tierney giving them a comfortable cushion. However, two late goals from Pico Lopes and substitute Aaron Greene created a nail-biting finale.

The final whistle was met with relief from fans in the Jodi Stand. Bohemians have now claimed four of the last five league encounters against the reigning champions, who continue to struggle with sluggish starts despite winning five of the last six league titles.

Shamrock Rovers started brightly but struggled to make an impact until it was almost too late. Bohs, meanwhile, will be hoping that their recent consistency in this fixture can be carried through the season, potentially mounting a challenge for silverware.

Rovers threatened first in the tenth minute when Ed McGinty’s clearance found Adam Brennan in space, but his effort flew over the bar. The crowd gasped when Brennan’s volley from the edge of the area was brilliantly saved by Kacper Chorazka, with Patrick Hickey clearing the rebound.

That moment ignited Bohemians into action. Their best move of the match resulted in the opening goal: Dawson Devoy and Whelan exchanged nutmegs before Parsons slid the ball past McGinty to grab a crucial first strike.

Alan Reynolds’ side finished the first half strongly. Dayle Rooney saw a shot skim across the six-yard box, while a flowing combination involving Jordan Flores and Rooney ended with Dan Cleary blocking Ross Tierney’s goal-bound effort.

Bohemians returned from the break energized. Devoy led several attacks, one shot deflected over the bar, before Tierney was brought down in the box by Cleary in the 56th minute. Whelan calmly converted the penalty to double the lead.

Bohs continued to press, with Tierney orchestrating moves and nearly scoring again, though McGinty managed to smother his efforts. Stephen Bradley introduced changes for Shamrock Rovers, but Bohemians’ relentless pressure continued, and Adam McDonnell’s close-range header was cleared off the line by Graham Burke.

Bohemians secured a third when Devoy broke forward and found Tierney, who finished into the bottom corner via the post. In added time, Lopes and Greene struck quickly for Rovers, creating a tense final minute.
