After signing a new two-year contract extension with Bayern Munich, Serge Gnabry is set to remain with the German giants until 2028. Head coach Vincent Kompany has expressed strong confidence in the forward, highlighting his importance to the team both on the pitch and within the squad environment.
A weapon on the field and a leader in the dressing room

Serge Gnabry’s revival this season hardly needs further emphasis. His return to top form has caught many by surprise. After Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury, Gnabry was deployed in a central attacking role and has since made the number 10 position his own at Bayern. While he has been most influential playing just behind Harry Kane, he has also proven dependable when asked to operate on the flanks.
With 15 goal contributions across all competitions, Gnabry is averaging 0.95 goal involvements per 90 minutes. Beyond the numbers, his sharp distribution in the final third has helped knit Bayern’s attacking play into a more fluid and cohesive unit.
Speaking ahead of Bayern’s Bundesliga clash with TSG Hoffenheim, Vincent Kompany stressed Gnabry’s value to the squad. “Serge has shown his quality many times. He is also very important in the dressing room. He has a special role off the pitch as well. I value that highly. We believe he can continue performing at this level in the years ahead,” Kompany said (via @iMiaSanMia), underlining Gnabry’s leadership role for the club’s emerging young talents.
Mid-season reshuffle and an experienced backbone

Currently, the right-wing and striker positions remain the most settled roles in Bayern’s attacking setup. However, with Jamal Musiala returning and Lennart Karl enjoying an outstanding debut campaign, the forward line is expected to undergo changes.
The central attacking role in particular has become highly competitive, with Musiala and Karl both pushing for regular starts. Even so, Gnabry has impressed in that position as well, leaving Kompany with key rotation and selection decisions to make.
Having spent much of his career on the wings, Gnabry’s ability to maintain consistency despite positional changes will be crucial for both himself and Bayern. With limited depth in attack and Musiala’s return likely to be gradual, Gnabry will need not only to adapt tactically but also to guide younger teammates through the increased tactical flexibility — something Kompany will heavily depend on.
While Gnabry’s form has fluctuated at times, his dedication to the club, its values and his professionalism have remained unwavering. This renewed show of faith from Bayern following his strong resurgence should serve as encouragement to younger players that a long and successful career at the club is achievable.
