Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly undergoing serious self-examination regarding his future at Olympique de Marseille, wondering whether he has become “the main problem” at the club, according to RMC Sport.
A decision could be reached as soon as this week, journalist Florent Germain reports. While the Italian coach is said to feel wounded and let down by certain members of his squad, he still enjoys the support of Marseille’s senior leadership.
These claims come amid growing internal unease, with L’Équipe stating that the mood inside Olympique de Marseille has worsened considerably in recent months, leaving players increasingly uncomfortable with the working environment under De Zerbi.
“Nothing makes sense anymore, and the players are beginning to realise it. We are close to breaking point,” a source close to the OM dressing room told L’Équipe.
Several players are said to feel constantly monitored, with strict controls going far beyond tactical issues. Their arrival and departure times at the Commanderie training ground are closely checked, along with the length of stretching sessions and even the food served in the club canteen.
In addition to the tense atmosphere, there is also confusion over De Zerbi’s sporting decisions. Players and staff reportedly struggle to understand some of his choices but feel unable to question them openly.
Even more concerning, L’Équipe claim that many players feel they are not improving in training, despite the intensity and demands of the sessions.
Marseille’s situation has been made worse by a difficult start to the year, highlighted by a heavy 5–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain last weekend, which has further increased pressure on both the coach and the overall direction of the project.
