Palmeiras recorded their first win of the Brasileirão season with a commanding 5-1 victory over Vitória on Wednesday (4).
The outcome at Arena Barueri was decided early, as the home side went into half-time holding a three-goal advantage.
Murilo, Gustavo Gómez, Maurício, Allan and Sosa were on target for Abel Ferreira’s team.
Dudu scored Vitória’s lone goal, leaving the visitors on three points in the standings.
Defenders set the tone
Wednesday’s match marked the first time in 2026 that Flaco López and Vitor Roque started together.
However, it was a different partnership — the defenders — who proved decisive in Palmeiras’ triumph.
Murilo opened the scoring from a corner, netting his first goal since May last year.
Gustavo Gómez then doubled the lead with another set-piece effort, capitalising on an assist from his fellow centre-back.
A rout confirmed
Palmeiras wrapped up the win in first-half stoppage time by making it 3-0, following a fine pass from Andreas Pereira that Maurício converted with a composed finish.
After the interval, Vitória attempted a comeback with a well-taken strike from Dudu.
But Palmeiras quickly restored their dominance and turned the match into a rout.
Allan and Sosa (via a deflection) both scored with long-range efforts to complete the emphatic victory.
