Jurgen Klopp, the former head coach of Liverpool, has praised Mohamed Salah as an "all-time great," emphasizing that his remarkable legacy at the club will be challenging to surpass. Salah recently announced that he would conclude his impressive nine-year tenure at Anfield at the end of the current season. Klopp, who brought Salah to Liverpool from Roma in 2017 for £34 million, managed the talented forward during his first seven seasons with the team.
Salah's Record-Breaking Achievements
During his time at Liverpool, Salah has made an indelible mark on the club's history, scoring a staggering 255 goals, which positions him third on the all-time scorer list. Reflecting on Salah's contributions, Klopp remarked, "In the moment when you work with him, it is the same as every other player: 'You can't lose the ball here, you have to defend here,' all these kinds of things." However, he also highlighted the extraordinary nature of Salah's statistics, questioning if any future player could match such unmatched numbers. Klopp expressed his belief that surpassing Salah’s achievements will be incredibly difficult.
The Legendary Front Three
Under Klopp's leadership, Salah was instrumental in securing numerous titles, including the Champions League, Premier League, three domestic cups, the Super Cup, and the Club World Cup. Much of this success came from a formidable attacking trio featuring Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane. Together, they scored a remarkable 338 goals over five seasons, with Salah leading the charge by netting 156 of those goals—49 more than Mane and 81 ahead of Firmino.

Klopp noted, "He [Salah] was part of the best front three in world football for a long time - the one with the most numbers. That says something." He acknowledged that while each player had unique skills, Salah's relentless desire to score set him apart, stating, "Mo was the one with a goal always in his mind. You cannot train that or learn it. It is inside him, and he has that."
Klopp's Farewell and Future Hopes
In January 2024, Klopp made the unexpected announcement that he would step down at the end of the 2023-24 season, citing a depletion of energy. His final game in charge was marked by an emotional farewell from the Anfield crowd during a match against Wolves. In a message to Salah, Klopp shared, "We [Salah and I] texted last night. I really hope he enjoys the rest of the season. I know Mo will only enjoy it if he is winning football games and scoring."
As Salah approaches the conclusion of his career at Liverpool, Klopp expressed his hopes for a joyful farewell for both the player and the fans. "I hope on this last matchday you [Liverpool supporters] all will have a smile on your face and just be happy and thankful that you were part of one of the most incredible careers we will ever be part of." With Salah's departure, the Liverpool faithful will undoubtedly cherish the memories of his incredible journey at the club.
